Financial Basics, Tutorial #7 Other Investments

This video tutorial is available for watching at YouTube or here for free. My YouTube name is Featureman.

If the stock market is not your choice for investments, look at other possibilities. In addition to bank savings accounts and checking accounts there are places where your savings can possibly grow. Most investment vehicles which are not FDIC insured carry some risk. That means it is possible to lose some or all of your investment. Remember you also can lose buying power through inflation even if you keep your money in a "safe" place.

Some examples of alternatives to stock market investing directly in individual stocks include, mutual funds, exchange traded funds, REITs, annuities, commodities and bonds.

Dream big, but invest with caution

This lesson is divided into two parts because of the length of time. YouTube has a ten minute limit. In the second half of the lesson there are ideas about alternate investing strategies which include gold and silver and collectible holdings. It also mentions many other kinds of investment ideas. Franchises and royalties from songwriting or authoring books are very real ways to make good money. Not everyone is going to write a hit song or popular book, but you might. Renting a home or buying rental property might be a good idea for you. Be sure to check all the possibilities for income. Also check ways you can stretch your own current income with lower taxes. Possibly you might want to incorporate yourself. Search that possibility. There are many kinds of income which will allow you to deduct with a Schedule C, any expenses associated with earning the income. One such Schedule C entry item would be earnings from a website even though it is not a business with a business license. If you receive a 1099MISC form from an advertiser, that will go on Schedule C. Check it out.
